Katherine Harris a Drag on the Republican Ticket

Congresswoman Katherine Harris who, as the de facto Republican nominee for U.S Senate, is leading the ticket for the Republicans, is fast on her way to becoming a drag on the GOP's chances of maintaining their monopoly on power in Florida. Her acceptance of illegal contributions from MZM, the defense contractor that bribed former Republican Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham and her earlier acceptance of illegal campaign contributions from an insurance company is turning her into an embarrassment for the party. Add to that the very public and repeated incidents of senior staff quitting and it no longer looks like just a campaign in chaos, but now looks more like a sinking ship.

Florida GOP Looks to Marriage Amendment for GOTV Assistance

The Florida Republican Party is doubling its efforts to get an anti-gay marriage amendment on the ballot. The GOP has used this before to improve GOTV (Get Out The Vote) efforts in battleground states. However, it can only be used once. That they are have decided to attempt this in Florida now indicates that they fear losing the state to Democrats over the next two years.

Governor Bush Flip Flops on Redistricting

In 2005, Gov. Bush helped raise millions of dollars for a California ballot initiative that would let a panel of three judges draw legislative districts. Now, he objects to another initiative - this time here in Florida - because, he argues, judges would wind up drawing the districts.

Of course, his objections are all just political posturing. He never believed in nonpartisan redistricting - not even when raising money for it. And his current objections have nothing to do with principle. He simply does not believe that his party will maintain control of the state, as they do now, if Republican legislators are forced to run in competitive districts.

Which says volumes about what Gov. Bush really thinks about his colleagues in legislature.
